Why this matters

Yukon's population of seniors has grown quickly

More Yukoners are staying north through retirement, in Whitehorse and well beyond it.

42.1%

Growth in Yukon's population aged 65 and over between 2016 and 2021, the largest increase for that age group of any province or territory

7,185

Yukoners aged 65 and over

26%

Share of Yukon seniors living outside the Whitehorse area, according to the territory's Aging in Place Action Plan

What matters most after a fall is how fast help arrives.

92%

Help under 1 hour

When help arrives within an hour, outcomes improve dramatically.

47%

1 to 3 hours

Longer waits significantly reduce the chance of a positive outcome.

25%

3 to 4 hours

Extended time without help can lead to serious complications.

Holo Alert connects you to a live care team member in moments, not hours. That is the entire point.

How it works

When you need us, here is exactly what happens

Three steps. Moments, not hours.

01

You press the button. Or you do not have to.

One press calls for help from anywhere in Canada. And if you fall and cannot press it, automatic fall detection calls for you.

02

A live care team member answers through the device.

A real person in our Canadian response centre speaks with you in moments, confirms what you need, and stays with you.

03

The right help is on the way.

Emergency services, a neighbour, or your family. Our team sends the right help to your location and notifies your emergency contacts.

Local support

Territorial programs worth knowing about

Supports that help Yukoners stay in their own homes. Holo Alert is not affiliated with any of them, and eligibility is decided by the Government of Yukon.

01

Home Care Program

Territory wide home care covering acute, chronic and palliative needs, including care coordination, home support, nursing, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology. The mix of services available is more limited in rural communities.

Yukoners of any age with an assessed home care need who have, or have applied for, Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan coverage may be eligible. Self referral is accepted.

Government of Yukon, Health and Social Services, Continuing Care
02

Pioneer Utility Grant

An income tested annual grant that helps seniors who own or rent their primary residence pay for oil, electricity, wood, propane or wood pellet heating. The 2025 maximum before income testing was $1,340.94 in Whitehorse and $1,448.21 outside Whitehorse.

Yukoners aged 65 and over during the grant year, resident in the territory for at least 12 months and living in Yukon at least 183 days a year including three winter months, may be eligible. Income limits apply and social housing residents are excluded.

Government of Yukon, Health and Social Services, Income Support Unit
03

Yukon Seniors Income Supplement

Automatically tops up the income of eligible seniors with lower incomes, increasing monthly income by up to $288.61, calculated from the recipient's federal Guaranteed Income Supplement amount.

Yukoners who qualify through federal Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement, or the applicable federal Spouse's or Survivor's Allowance, may be eligible. A separate application is usually unnecessary.

Government of Yukon, Health and Social Services
04

Home Repair Program

Four funding streams for homeowners: an Emergency Repair Grant up to $10,000, an Accessibility Grant up to $30,000 for mobility and aging in place retrofits, a Wildfire Grant up to $1,500 for air quality equipment, and a Home Repair Loan up to $70,000.

Homeowners with lower to moderate incomes who have lived in Yukon at least 90 days, own and occupy the home as their principal residence and fall below the applicable income limits may be eligible.

Yukon Housing Corporation

Program details and eligibility change over time; confirm with each program directly. Holo Alert is independent and not affiliated with these programs.

Made for Yukon

What a medical alert system looks like in Yukon

Most Yukoners live in and around Whitehorse, and a good number do not. Hospitals sit in Whitehorse, Dawson City and Watson Lake, and everywhere else relies on a local health centre and, when it comes to it, medical travel. The highways are long, the winter is longer, and the woodpile does not stack itself. That is the life people choose here, and there is no good reason to trade it in. There is a reason to carry something that can raise a real person without a phone in your hand.

Holo Alert is a small device you wear, on a pendant or on the wrist. Press the button and a live care team member in Canada speaks to you through the device itself, wherever you are standing. If a hard fall registers and you cannot press anything, the device makes that call on its own. The wireless connection is built into the device, so there is no landline to keep and no home internet to arrange. The honest limit is coverage: where there is no cellular service, the device cannot reach anyone.

Which is why this starts with a conversation. Call, and a Canadian care team member will ask where you live, where you drive, and what coverage looks like at those addresses. If it suits, they will tell you which device makes sense. If it does not, they will say so.

  • Works wherever there is wireless coverage, in Whitehorse or beyond it
  • No landline, no home internet and no smartphone needed
  • Fall detection places the call if you cannot press the button yourself
  • A live Canadian care team, awake through the darkest week of December
  • Plans from $49.95 a month, about $1.65 a day

Built for Yukon

What you get with Holo Alert in Yukon

Everything a medical alert should do, wherever your day takes you.

Fall detection, included

Every Holo Alert plan includes fall detection at no extra charge. If a hard fall registers, the device calls on its own. It does not catch every fall, so press the button whenever you can.

Two-way voice, from the device

Speak with a Canadian care team member through the device you are wearing, rather than trying to reach a phone in another room.

Straight talk about coverage

The device needs a wireless signal to work. A care team member checks your community and address with you first, and says plainly when the answer is no.

Answered around the clock

North American monitoring stations are staffed every hour of the year, through the darkest weeks and the midnight sun.

Family can stay in the loop

The Holo Pro pairs with a caregiver app, so family in Whitehorse or down south can check in without phoning three times a day.

Health readings on the watch styles

The Holo Active tracks heart rate and body temperature next to the SOS button, on a watch that still looks like a watch.

Common hesitations

If you are thinking "not yet", read this first

Every customer started with one of these.

I am still active. I do not need one yet.

Most falls happen to active people doing everyday things. One in three seniors falls each year, and most did not see it coming. Holo Alert is like a seatbelt: you wear it hoping you never need it, and it is already there if you do.

The best time to get protected is before you need it.

I do not want to wear something that looks medical.

Neither do our customers. The Holo Active looks like a modern smartwatch, and the Holo Pro pendant is small enough to tuck under a shirt. No one has to know unless you tell them.

Protection that looks like a watch, not a warning label.

My phone already has fall detection.

A phone is not built for emergencies. It needs daily charging, it can be out of reach, and it calls 911 rather than a trained care team member who knows your situation and who to contact. Holo Alert works on its own, with a single press or an automatic alert.

A phone across the room is not a safety plan.

It is probably complicated to set up.

Your device arrives programmed, charged, and ready to wear. Then our care team calls you to run a live test together and answer every question. Most people are fully set up in about five minutes.

If you can open a box, you can set up Holo Alert.

FAQ

Questions from Yukon families, answered

Everything you need to know before you decide.

It works wherever there is wireless coverage. Whitehorse and several Yukon communities have cellular service, and some do not, including Old Crow and long stretches of highway between towns. Where there is no signal the device cannot connect to anyone. Before you order, give a care team member the community and address you care about and they will check what coverage exists there and give you a straight answer.

Without a cellular signal the device has nothing to connect to, so it will not be able to call for help at a cabin or on a stretch of road with no coverage. It is built for life around the house and the community rather than as a backcountry tool, and a satellite communicator is the right answer for travel well off the network. A care team member will be upfront about that before you commit to anything.

A medical alert system can provide peace of mind for you and your loved ones if you're concerned about getting help during an emergency. It's especially beneficial if you live alone, have a history of falls, take medications that affect balance, have mobility issues, or chronic health conditions. Medical alert systems are also valuable if you want to maintain your independence while ensuring help is always available at the touch of a button. If you're worried about your safety or your family has expressed concerns about you living alone, a medical alert system is a smart investment that can help you stay safe and independent in your own home.

No, you don't need a landline or wifi for Holo Alert systems. Our devices use cellular technology and work anywhere with 4G LTE coverage across Canada. This means you stay protected whether you're at home, in your garden, or out in the community. The cellular connection is built right into the device, so there's no need for a home phone line or internet connection. This gives you the freedom to live independently while staying connected to help 24/7.

The best medical alert systems in Canada offer reliable 24/7 monitoring, fall detection, GPS tracking, and cellular connectivity without requiring a landline. Key features to look for include waterproof design, two-way communication, North American-based monitoring centers, and nationwide cellular coverage. Holo Alert offers both the Holo Pro (with advanced fall detection and up to 7-day battery life) and Holo Mini (compact emergency alert device) designed specifically for Canadian seniors. When choosing a system, consider battery life, coverage area, monthly costs, and whether the device works both at home and on-the-go across Canada.

Yes, Holo Alert systems work in rural areas across Canada. Our devices use 4G LTE cellular networks to provide reliable coverage in most rural locations where you have cell phone service. Since we don't require landlines or wifi, you can stay protected even in remote areas. However, cellular coverage can vary by location and carrier. We recommend checking the cellular coverage in your specific area, and our team can help verify service availability before you order. If you have cell phone service at your location, Holo Alert will likely work for you.

No worries! Accidental button presses happen and it's actually a good way to test that your system is working properly. Simply tell the monitoring specialist that it was an accidental press when they answer your call. Our trained operators understand that false alarms occur and will quickly verify that you're okay. There's no penalty or extra charge for accidental activations. We'd rather you press the button when you don't need help than hesitate to use it during a real emergency.

Medical alert systems use built-in sensors called accelerometers to detect sudden changes in movement that indicate a fall. When a fall is detected, the device automatically connects you to our 24/7 monitoring center within seconds. You can also manually activate the system anytime by pressing the help button. Our specialists can assess your situation through the device's two-way speaker and send help if needed. You can cancel false alarms if you're okay. While highly accurate, we recommend always pressing your help button manually when you need assistance.

Still have a question? Call 1-888-445-0192 and a care team member will answer it.

Fall detection does not detect all falls. Gradual slides, slow collapses, or certain movements may not trigger an alert. Customers should press the SOS button manually if able.

Location accuracy varies and may be affected by network availability, indoor environments, and other factors.

Holo Alert does not replace 911 or emergency medical services.

Monthly plans are billed month to month with no contract or cancellation fee. Annual plans are billed for the full year upfront at a reduced rate and include a free device. Annual plans are non-refundable after the 10-day risk-free guarantee period. Both plan types are covered by the 10-day risk-free guarantee when you first sign up.

Statistics cited reflect publicly available Canadian public health data and industry research on falls among older adults and emergency response outcomes; sources are noted alongside each figure. Government program details change over time and should be confirmed with each program directly.
